Save Yer Ears

This evening I heard "Untouched" by the Veronicas at least ten times on various stations within one hour. I hate that song. It sucks. A lot. It actually makes me angry to hear it, and for a moment I feel the need to scream obsenities at anyone remotely enjoying it whilst simultaneously tearing off my ears.

I like my ears, so thankfully I have the "Saving Grace" musicians - as I like to call them. The artists I can turn to when I lose hope in the world o' music. They are Sean Hayes and Yann Tiersen. You might recognize both names - Yann Tiersen composed the "Goodbye, Lenin" and "Amelie" soundtrack; Sean Hayes shares his namesake with one of the stars of Will and Grace.

Personally, I love that they're not so well known. If that was the case, they'd probably take the Coldplay route and I'd hear their songs so much they'd start to annoy me. But at the same time, they're so damn good that I think they deserve a little recognition. So, take some time to nurse your ears and give these tunes a listen. While your at it, answer this: What are your Saving Grace musicians?

    Yann Tierson is well known.
If you enjoy these artists so much, why don't you just enjoy them for what they do and produce and not insult other artists in the process?

I'm not saying I like Coldplay or The Veronicas or anything, but I don't think you should start putting the artists that you like for being "unknown" on a pedestal.

  2. What I meant by not so well known, is if they were on every radio station at least once an hour (as Coldplay is) I'm sure I'd tire of their songs, just as I tired of Coldplays.

Yann Tiersen doesn't get too much radio-play, from what I know. nor does Sean Hayes.

That being said, that's not the reason i enjoy these artists. I enjoy them because they have substance. They take time with their music, it's produced carefully and thoughtfully. There's an art to it. They aren't churning out songs every other week to please the radio listeners and make the big bucks.

    But hey, I can't lie - I dig Beyonce.

  3. A side note - This is entirely my own opinion. I can sort of understand the appeal of catchy, pop songs - I have a die-hard Jo Bro fan for a friend. They're just not something I generally enjoy. To each their own. Don't kill me!
