Before you get all humbly jumbly. Just now that my mixes are premium. They are desired by Kings and Fascist rulers around the world.

I made this for my friend Laura who fits somewhere in between those two types of people.

This is my first upload so all the songs are in alphabetical order. This means that the songs are not positioned in the exact order i want them to be in. BUT i think that you will still enjoy the mix as much as Laura does.

Together As One. A New Years Story.

This Dec. 31st I wanted to spend my New Years cozied up on my couch sipping some spiced egg nog, watching the ball drop on the boob tube, and bringing in the New Year consciously focusing on my resolutions (possibly with an adorable boy next to me). I’ve had this plan for the past 4 years since I decided to attempt being a business woman/adultesque. Yet every damn year I get hypnotized by crazed teenagers to “do something wilder.” For 2009, wild transformed to extreme. I left my little Venetian hobbit home by the sea, and trekked through the Los Angeles outback to the downtown sports arena to join 60,000 furry platform boot wearing, glow stick ridden, pacifier sucking, candied out, more than half naked ravers to dance the year away to a 9 hour set by Armin Van Buuren. I’ll be honest, I don’t really fancy techno, I enjoy dancing to the robotically electronic music only outside of my living room, and the ADD in me finds most of it long drawn out and repetitive. Still, I end up buying tickets to massives every time I can. “Together As One” or “TAO” (although not at all related to Taoism) turned out to be an interesting study for me into a sub-cultural phenomenon that pulses throughout our country. Once underground and now monopolized by large rave franchises making millions of dollars on each event.
This time, I fit into the 3% of sober folks inside the stadium. I tried to lead my friends through the obstacle course of sweaty bodies as every one in my group found themselves called to different directions as their consciousness swayed and spun. All around us young adolescents ungulate to the same loud beats as their raver peers. I watched as invisible lines were drawn pulling groups together to hug and caress. The ocean of people glowing red and green, every individual part of the mass dancing machine, literally “together as one,” the sea rolling fluidly from a birds eye view. Ecstasy pumping through young minds bringing a newfound idea of acceptance and unity to the mainstream. This was not my first rave, yet my first not heavily influenced. What I discovered from this experience was that there is a large part of my generation lost. This group has found collective exile in raves; a space of free expression and freedom to experiment within the realms of sexuality, mind expansion, movement, convergence, the list goes on…. The rave offers that feeling of belonging and purpose that the outside world hasn’t. I personally love going to raves because I love to dance, and I love to look at shiny things and shiny costumes, but I have never found raving to be anything more than that. After spending my New Years contemplating ways to help teenagers find that same unity doing things that help the world instead of self-indulgence I came up with nothing…. Yet. Being inside a stadium with 60,000 people dancing together for the good of the night made me long to see this amazing power be directed towards working together for the good of the world. We don’t have the time or the resources right now to just have fun for the sake of having fun, this is a period of urgency, Have fun, please, fun is always vital to life, but have fun while being a positive helping force in the world.
Right now in the US, we are growing up so privileged compared to the rest of the world, living in the moment is a beautiful thing, and I don’t want to downsize the importance of that, but there is a world outside of the golden states and it’s time for our generation to get inspired to help others and leave self indulgence and apathy in the past, and then we can dance literally “together as one.”

The Best Movies Of 2008 minus the list.

Lists are inherently pretentious. On that note, the following is a list of memorable moments in film of 2008 AD. Please note that this does not carry a "BEST OF 08'" connotation; rather, these are the movies that I took a personal interest in regardless of whether I liked them or not.

FAVORITE: "In Bruges." Two hit men are sent to Bruge, Belgium to wait out their respective fates after a botched assassination. Loyalty and redemption has never been so funny and emotionally resonate.

LOLZ: "Tropic Thunder." Yeah, my taste was tested when Robert Downey Jr. advised Ben Stiller to "Never go full retard." But since it was said by an equally insane character in black face, I left my P.C. meter at the door.

WORTHY OSCAR BAIT PERFORMANCES: "Milk," "Frost/Nixon," and "The Wrestler." Spicoli goes gay, Frank Langella is not a crook, and Mickey Rourke "plays" a washed up pro in search of second chances. Whatever, I was moved in a great way.

SHAMEFULLY UNORIGINAL BUT WELL MADE OSCAR BAIT: "Revolutionary Road." AKA "American Beauty: The Beginning," beautiful white people whose "DREAMZ HAV BEEN LOST" shout at each other in beautifully composed shots of beautiful suburban angst. Owning a house and two cars has never been more painful.

UNDESERVING OVER HYPED SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER: "Iron Man." This really wasn't as charming as you thought this was. In fact, it was kind of boring. Here's hoping audiences won't blindly adore Robert Downey Jr. by the time of the sequel so he can actually, you know, "act" in the movie.

INFURIATINGLY THOUGHT PROVOKING OLIVER STONE RANT: "Four Christma-" no, wait, "W." I didn't like this film too much, but it made me think about how f'ed up the last eight or so years have been. Plus, who doesn't want to hear Dick Cheney say "No one will fuck with us again." Eerily entertaining.

WORST FILM THAT I SAW WITH SAM SCHACHTER: "Nick and Norah's I don't care what the rest of this incoherent unentertaining mess of a movie's title is." I expressed to several people that I hoped this would be "The Superbad of our generation!" Not very funny, I know. But neither was this movie comprised of plot inconsistencies, gay stereotypes, and the most unappealing and rushed orgasm ever put on film.

FILMS THAT YOU SHOULD SEE BUT HAVEN'T: "Man on Wire," a documentary of Philippe Petit's tightrope walk between the World Trade Center, "Rachel Getting Married," Jonathan Demme's handheld camera exploration of how Anne Hathaway can ruin the happiest day of someone else's life, "Let the Right One In," a vampire film that doesn't care about a paycheck, and "JCVD," an oddity of a film featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme in his best performance as...himself.

And of course, I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks as well :)

The Ultimate Corn Chowder

Tonight we were in the mood for something really hearty to get us through the rest of the week.  We had several different vegetables and leftover vegetable stock from the holidays, so a soup was the perfect choice for this chilly Tuesday night!  Try this "souper" easy chowder to warm your heart, soul, and home!  

 

Tuesday Night Corn Chowder

(serves 4-6)

 

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter

Extra-virgin olive oil

1 diced onion (red, yellow, or white)

2 garlic cloves (minced)

6 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves only

1 diced green bell pepper

1/2 cup diced carrots

1/4 all purpose- flour

6 cups canned vegetable stock

1/2 cup half and half

2 cups peeled potatoes (We used baby reds, but any type of spud will be perfect!)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

 

Directions

Heat the butter and olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, thyme, bell pepper, and carrots and cook until the vegetables are good and soft (5-10 minutes). 

Add flour and stir until smooth- this will create a roux that will thicken the chowder. 

Pour in the vegetable stock and bring to a boil. 

Add the cream and the potatoes, bring to a boil and boil hard for about 7 minutes, until the potatoes break down (this will help to thicken the soup and give it a good texture).

Add the corn and season with salt and pepper and simmer until the corn is soft, about 10 to 12 minutes. 

Allow soup to cook down for an additional 10-20 minutes or until nice and thick. 

We served this chowder with our leftover Rosemary-Asiago Focaccia, but this is so good, you can eat it with just about anything, or by itself!

Skippies!

Are you looking to have a good time? Are you looking to not remember how good of a time you actually had? Well then Skippies is the drink for you!



*Keep in mind that this drink will serve about 15 people so don't try to make it if you and friend are looking for a nice quite drink. This is for partying, and getting sloppy enough to tell all the girls in the room how beautiful they are.

What you need:
1 large tub (a laundry tub works best)
1 30 rack of beer
1 handle of vodka
1 bottle of champagne
4-6 containers of frozen lemonade mix
Ice
Something to serve the drinks with
and Cups

How it's made
1. Put a bag of ice in the bottom of the bucket.(Make sure it's in a bag or you'll water down your Skippies)
2.Take the beer, the vodka, the champagne and the frozen lemonade mix and pour it into the tub, yes, all of it.
3. Stir
4. Drink

Variations and Notes
You can use any other sort of drink mix too; however, if you decide to use powder stay away from anything cherry flavored and anything sugar free.

This is just your standard Skippies drink, if you want get adventurous you can always add other things; sometimes rum is a good addition, flavored vodkas are always nice and wine's a good addition every now and then too.

If you're having a huge party and you don't think this will be enough, you can always double the ingredients. However, you're not allowed to cut the recipe in half because that's for bitches, you're not a bitch are you?
